LAS VEGAS - Il frontman del gruppo rock elvetico Gotthard, Steve Lee, è morto martedì sera in un incidente stradale avvenuto a circa 60 miglia (101 chilometri) a nord di Las Vegas, negli Stati Uniti. Steve Lee, classe 1963, si era fermato insieme ai suoi compagni di viaggio a lato della Interstate 15 a poche miglia dalla città di Mesquite per indossare la tuta contro la pioggia. Poi, la tragedia: il rimorchio di un camion - secondo la ricostruzione che appare sul sito della band - è sbandato e ha colpito alcune motociclette. Una di queste ha colpito Lee, che è morto sul posto.
Il suo viaggio negli USA era iniziato sabato. Con lui vi c'erano anche la compagna Brigitte Voss (Miss Svizzera 1981) e il bassista del gruppo Marc Lynn. La notizia è circolata su alcuni media online statunitensi, rimbalzando oltre San Gottardo. Nato a Horgen, nel Canton Zurigo, il 5 agosto del 1963, da padre britannico e madre svizzera, Steve Lee era cresciuto nel nostro Cantone; aveva fatto parte di diverse band ticinesi prima di formare nel 1992 - assieme a Leo Leoni, Marc Lynn e Hena Habegger - i Gotthard e diventare una celebrità. Nella sua carriera ha poi collaborato con diversi artisti di fama internazionale, tra cui l'ex tastierista dei Deep Purple, Jon Lord. Il 47.enne era stato coinvolto con la famiglia, la scorsa estate, in un incidente stradale in Italia (cfr. suggeriti).

incredibile........lo solo scoperto 10 minuti fa cercando il titolo di un album su wikipedia...che tristezza venirlo a sapere proprio mentre si sta ascoltando una sua canzone.....era una delle voci migliori al momento........che ne sarà dei gotthard adesso

Steve was killed accidentally during a motorcycle trip in the USA on Interstate 15 between Mesquite and Las Vegas and died at the scene.
The GOTTHARD singer had flown to the U.S. with some biker friends just this weekend to fulfil a long-cherished dream for which he’d never had the time, due to his heavy touring schedule for many years. It was to be two weeks through the states on a Harley Davidson. The 21 Swiss bikers started their journey on Sunday on a total of 12 motorcycles. On Tuesday 5 October, about 50 miles from Las Vegas, the group had stopped at the roadside to put on their rain gear as it had started to rain. On the slippery road, the trailer of a passing truck began to skid. The driver attempted evasive action but his trailer clipped five of the motorcycles parked at the roadside; one of them hit Steve Lee. Rescue services attempted resuscitation but efforts were stopped after 20 minutes. At 16:13 local time, Steve Lee was pronounced dead.
Among the passengers were bassist Marc Lynn and Steve’s partner Brigitte Voss Balzarini. All other fellow riders were unharmed. Steve Lee was 47 years old.
With Steve Lee, we not only lose one of the world's best rock voices but also a good friend who due to his sensitivity and down-to-earth personality always met the people around him with respect.
It will take some time till we fully understand what has happened.
